多样性, 股本, and inclusive excellence is about belonging--- about having the tools to practice what we preach as a university. I have long been in the field of DEI not only as an academic, but as an artist and a former student affairs manager and a Chief 多样性 Officer at a large public university in rural Michigan. I was born and raised by social justice warriors here in Los Angeles, and have experienced both success and obstructions to my work in DEI work through a social justice practice. 我带了一个土著, community-based practice to this work that includes building consensus, 进行困难的对话, and understanding that inclusive excellence excludes no one. I received my doctoral degree in Language and Communicative Disorders from the University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University. I also worked as a bilingual Spanish-English speech-language pathologist in New York and California. I have a heart for those who might feel alone or have a hard time adjusting to University life. I also enjoy the opportunity to work with so many first-generation students. I find that our students are happy to be here, eager to learn, and hard-working. I was also a first-generation student and I can relate to many of the experiences our students face. As the co-Equity Coordinator for the Xu College of Health and Human Services, my goal is to work collaboratively to help the college continue to build a more equitable community among 教师, 工作人员, 和学生. I hope to foster a supportive environment with and for our 教师, especially 教师 of color from historically marginalized backgrounds, to develop a strong sense of belonging as scholars on campus.
My spare time is often spent with my two young children, exploring the outdoors and attending various community events.
